According to the latest Health and Safety Executive report, a staggering 15.4 million working days were lost in the UK due to work-related stress, depression, or anxiety in the last year — costing the economy £45 billion annually. With over 600,000 workers affected with work-related stress, the growing prevalence of poor mental health and corporate burnout within our society is clear; it’s no wonder that 85% of the global workforce feel disengaged from their work.

These statistics don’t even take into account the loss of engagement and productivity when workers are present; the low rates of loyalty leading to ever more rapid turnover; or the critical stifling of innovation and creativity. The story of 21st Century work so far has been one of increasing precarity, disposability and dissatisfaction. Rather than helping people and society to flourish, the workplace is leading the global population to poor health outcomes and a life full of struggle and mediocrity.

COVID-19 is having a profound impact on our wellbeing — the data is already indicating an exponential rise in mental health issues as the psychological effects begin to take their toll. Highlighting huge inequalities, tired work practices and systems the pandemic has drawn us to shine a spotlight onto the delicate balance of work and life. We are re-evaluating what’s important to us and beginning to understand just how critical our wellbeing is to our quality of life.

Now more than ever, it is crucial for organisations to recognise their responsibility in fostering positive, compassionate cultures that support and enhance the wellbeing of their people on every level or face the far-reaching consequences.

It’s long been clear that the workplace has the power to be a true catalyst for transformation and social change, and that through supporting people to live happier, healthier lives at work we can co-create happier and healthier societies together. Now is the time for businesses to become a force for good — to shift the paradigm and move from the past to the future.

Businesses and leaders of the future will rise to the opportunity to redefine their purpose in the world. Reimagining cultures to enhance employee experience, by refocusing on the wellbeing of their people — reshaping the world so that purpose truly meets profit.

The Revolution is coming… We launch into the world on Thursday the 5th of November and we’re calling on forward-thinking leaders and organisations to join us in our quest to reimagine the workplace as a force for positive transformation.

The future is what we make it, let’s shape it together!
